How To Keep The Bully Safe This Summer!
If you think it’s hot outside – your dog probably agrees… plus some.
You know the basics: Don’t leave your dog in a hot car. Don’t let your dog sit outside for long periods of time in the heat. Make sure your dog has enough water.
It’s important to go beyond the basics, especially when it comes to the Bully Breed.
Don’t just make sure your bully gets enough water – who doesn’t love ice water when it’s hot outside? Put ice in their dish, and let them snack on the frozen cubes… they’ll appreciate it.
More on H2O – invest in a kiddie pool even if your pup is the only kiddo in the family. It can work wonders in the summer.
Sure, your four-legged bully-buddy loves going for strolls & you can’t stand how adorable it is when just saying the word gets a reaction.
When the temperatures are high, keep the walking distance short and watch your dog’s behavior closely. Your pup’s safety is more important than the ‘W’ word.
When thinking about the safety of your bully… think outside of their world.
Be careful when it comes to the treatment & chemicals that keep your grass green and weeds away. Give it a solid 24 hours before allowing your dog to roll around out in the yard.
Use this image as a good barometer for the heat of asphalt:
Enjoy the summertime & let your bully do the same – responsibly.

Me like happy Bulldog. You like happy Bulldog. Bulldog like happy Bulldog.
Let’s just jump right into it, shall we?
1. Get off your gersh dern butt, and give ’em some exercise!
Yeah, I know, sometimes it’s easier to sit there and binge watch “House.” But an American Bulldog does need to exercise to keep the pooch mentally stimulated and physically fit!
2. Clean the folds.
If you are an American Bulldog owner, chances are you already know this. But make sure you do it. Somebody once asked me what it smells like, and the best answer I could come up with is “Doggy B.O.” Although their folds aren’t nearly as bad as their English and French Bulldog counterparts, they should be cleaned.
3. Teach them stuff.
Although being stubborn, American Bulldogs do like to learn and be taught. Recently I taught my American Bully to go in the crate. You know how I did it? I sat there and threw Cheetos in the back of the crate and said “crate.” Guess what? Now he LOVES the crate (and a plethora of Cheetos). ‘Course, I know he doesn’t have allergies to this kind of stuff.
4. Let them socialize.
This applies to any dog breed, but dogs really love to socialize with other dogs. It’s hugely beneficial to a dog’s mental health.
5. Give ’em good toys.
American Bulldogs freakin’ LOVE chew toys (and really any toy). However, they can get bored with toys and/or destroy them SUPER easily (you knew that).
Oh, wait, what is that I hear? There is an awesome product for that, specifically made for power chewers?!? Check out our Bullymake Boxes:
Yeah, dogs love this stuff – especially American Bulldogs.
6. Show some love!
Not like that’s all that difficult. How can you resist that beast of a dog? (who’s secretly a couch potato).
7. Introduce new activities.
Sometimes taking them for a walk can get old. Introduce new activities like hide and seek, tug of war, fetch, etc.
8. Groom.
Although your Bully might be stubborn and fight it, they secretly like being groomed. Clean the ears and coat, clip the nails, clean the eyes – and of course, clean the face.
9. Avoid Rawhide like the plague.
Never, ever, ever, give your American Bulldog rawhide. It is a huge choking and digestive hazard among many breeds. We never send rawhide here at Bullymake.

5 Awesome Activities For Your Dog
Like humans, dogs can get bored with their everyday activities. So mix it up a bit – we’ll help you with that.
So without further ado, let’s take a look at these 5 great activities:
- Hide and Seek: Believe it or not, hide and seek is a great way to exercise your dog physically and mentally. You can hide around trees or in your backyard, or anywhere you see fit. Naturally, most pups like to follow and seek their humans. This can get your pooch running around in the backyard and help challenge their mind while they try and find you.
- Fetch: A classic, playing fetch with your dog is a great physical activity. Dogs have a natural instinct to hunt or herd. Fetch can get them up and moving and give them an instinctual task.
- New Toys: Dogs get bored of toys easily. They may “figure it out” or chew a toy to death, and after that they simply get bored. Incorporating fresh new toys is a great way to stimulate your pup mentally. Using a food puzzle toy is also a great way to keep your dog busy. These kind of toys trap treats in them, and your dog must figure out how to get them out.
- Tug-Of-War: A doggy favorite, playing tug of war is an excellent way to get some physical activity in for your pup. If your pet is anything like mine, he/she could play tug-of-war for days. Just try to keep it indoors on hot days to avoid any kind of overheating issues.
- Walk to New Places: Discovering new places is a great experience for your dog and will keep them happy. Dogs are eager to learn, and one way you can help them learn is by allowing them to visit new places! It helps them mature and understand their surroundings. Take your dog out for a walk and let him explore a little bit!
