Possibly one of the greatest parts about dogs growing old is their tendency to always remain puppies at heart. One such dog, Winston, a ten year old English Bulldog reminds us of this.

While Winston may be a wise old boy, his puppy-like habits shine through as he finds himself unable to ever leave the house without one of his stuffed animals in his mouth.

According to a story in The Dodo, Winston toys are never neglected when it’s time to go outside. If he forgets one, he makes sure to run back inside and grab one!

Becky Smith, Winston’s owner, told The Dodo, “Winston is very attached to his toys. His favorite toys are his duck and bear. He carries them outside with him every time and has done this for many years.”

Winston makes sure to sleep next to his toys every night to keep them safe as well. “He’s the sweetest dog who will cuddle on your lap for hours on end,” Smith says.

When Raven–a Husky dog–seemed a little lonely, her owner Christina found the perfect solution: to let Raven pick out her own new furry best friend!

According to an interview with The Dodo, Raven’s human mom Christina said, “I always wanted a dog and a cat to grow up together. It’s kind of been a life goal. So I wanted [Raven] to actually meet the cat and have the cat get along with the dog as well.”

A number of kittens were put in front of Raven, but Woodhouse was the only one that interested her, and Raven got to bring her home. Since then, the two have become best friends, taking naps, playing and spending all of their time together.

Christina noted that the two “Are perfect with each other…They’re always together, always playing together.”

After a stray pup wandered its way into a Franciscan monastery in Bolivia, the monks living there decided to rescue the homeless dog and make him an honorary monk, according to a story by The Dodo. 

The dog, who now goes by “Friar Mustache” is the newest member of the monastery in Cochabamba, Bolivia, which is part of a Catholic order established by the patron saint  of animals.

Friar Mustache has taken the blogosphere by storm, posing with his fellow monks in his very own, dog-sized habit.

According to the monks, the pup has thrived in his new home.

“His life is all about playing and running,” said monk Jorge Fernandez. “The brothers love him very much. He is a creature of god.”

A local animal rescue in Bolivia known as the “Cold Nose Project” praised the monks for taking in the dog, writing, “If only all the churches of our country would adopt a dog and care for him like Friar [Mustache], we are sure the parishioners would follow their example.

When best man Craig Rhodes “forgot” the wedding rings for Laura and James Russell’s special day, their dog George–a French Bulldog–came to a swift rescue, bringing the rings just in time!

According to The Daily Mail, the best man and maid of honor had planned the event as part of the ceremony and pre-produced a video that was shown on a big screen to the bride and groom as soon as it became apparent the rings were “missing.”

In the video, George the Bulldog is seen in bed wearing pajamas when he gets a call from Rhodes telling him that he needs to get the rings to the ceremony as quickly as he can.

George then darts across a beach while donning a canine tuxedo, only to end up at the church in real life with the rings in tow.

Speaking to The Daily Mail about the surprise entrance, bride Laura noted, “George is like our child. He goes everywhere with us. He had to be part of the ceremony.”

Ever feel you need some love? If you’re in New York City, Insta-famous Golden Retriever Louboutina might just be the friend you need!

Louboutina, or “Loubie” for short, has become something of a canine celebrity in the city, hugging her new human friends during walks with owner Cesar Fernandez-Chavez in their Chelsea neighborhood.

According to Fernandez-Chavez, the duo doesn’t make it too far on walks without Loubie trying to hug either him or unsuspecting passers by with whom she feels a connection.

In an interview with The Dodo, Fernandez-Chavez said that Loubie has helped a number of people, making their day.

“It’s nice to see people walk away with a smile,” he said. “People say it’s so good to see this on the street. She’s bringing them joy. It’s very rewarding.”

As part of an effort to curb inhumane breeding practices throughout the city, legislators in San Francisco passed a law that will force pet shops to sell only rescue animals.

While licensed breeders won’t be affected by the law, those who run puppy-mills will. In addition to taking on these inhumane forms of breeding, the law will perhaps most importantly encourage the purchase of shelter dogs who need homes.

In an interview with the U.K. newspaper The Independent, PETA director Mimi Bekhechi described the law as progressive, noting that it would set a good example for other cities to follow.

The same article notes that a number of other cities such as Boston, Austin, Chicago, and Los Angeles already have similar laws that encourage the purchase of rescue animals over puppy-mill dogs.

In the interview, Bekhechi notes that “Pet shops’ greed fuels the cruel commercial breeding industry that keeps female dogs and cats prisoner inside filthy wire cages. Their only purpose is to churn out litters of inbred puppies and kittens who are then taken away from them, transported hundreds of miles, and sold.”

While San Francisco currently doesn’t have any licensed stores that sell dogs bred in puppy-mills, the law would prevent any from opening in the future leaving San Francisco dog lovers to rest easy.
