The bond between human and service dog is completely different from any other. So when Claire went to her high school prom this past month, it only made sense that Percie came with her.

According to a story in The Dodo, Percie is a medical alert dog who uses her intuition to know when Claire’s disability might come into play.

“A large part of my disability are anxiety-derived ‘episodes,’ which can best be described as panic attacks,” Claire told The Dodo. “Percie can detect my cortisol levels and lets me know when an episode is about to happen based on my levels. This gives me the advantage of knowing before the episode occurs so I can take measures to lessen its severity.”

Although things never got too bad for Claire during the prom, Percie still kept her eyes and her nose on her, even letting her know when he started to sense her anxiety building at points.

“She helped me during prom by alerting me several times, which she does by excessively pawing or nudging me with her nose,” Claire told The Dodo. “She performed ‘blocks’ or ‘covers’ by moving her body into positions that prevent people from getting too close while I recovered from less severe, short episodes.”

Claire hopes that Percie, who has gone viral on Instagram, can be an example that spreads the word about the wonders of service dogs.

“I hope to educate the public about service dogs and invisible disabilities, but I also want to help others feel less alone and more valid in their battle,” she said. “I’m not weaker because of my disability or because I have a service dog, I’m actually a lot stronger.”

Sometimes our canine companions deserve to be spoiled just as much as we are.

For this dog, that day was Mother’s Day.

Maye, a shelter dog from Atlanta, was picked up this past Mother’s day by shelter volunteer Nancy Riley-James. Riley-James noticed from the dog’s underside that Maye recently had a litter.

According to The Dodo Riley-James decided that given the holiday, Maye deserved a vacation.

“Moms need a break! This four-legged mommy needed one, too,” Riley-James told The Dodo.

The two stopped for brunch at a local eatery in Atlanta that is so friendly to pups that there is even a canine-centric menu.

After their meal, Maye and Riley-James had dessert at King of Pops, a popsicle stand that caters to both humans and dogs.

At the end of the day, the two relaxed in a local pet-friendly hotel–and the hotel supplied new chew toys for Maye.

“She loved being in that [hotel] bed,” said Riley-James. “That was probably the most comfortable, peaceful rest she has had in awhile.”

“Getting out of the shelter for a day out is great for dogs, because it allows them to leave the stressful shelter behind and truly relax,” Karen Hirsch, spokesperson for LifeLine Animal Project, told The Dodo. “And the individual attention that they receive means the world to them. They seem to bask in it. It seems to recharge their batteries, making shelter life more tolerable.”

Every dog seems to have its own lovable little quirks, but Huckleberry’s are a little “higher” up than most. Huckleberry, a Golden Retriever from Austin, Texas spends his days relaxing on top his family’s roof.

After a number of neighbors and joggers posted their fascination with Huck, the pooch went viral and now has nearly 30,000 followers in Instagram!

Huck’s owner Allie Lindenmuth told CBS News, “He likes to sit up there and watch the cars and passersby. He loves to say hello!”

According to CBS News, when Lindenmuth and her husband moved into their current home in Austin about three years ago, they noticed how easy it was to access the roof and wondered if Huck would figure it out.

It didn’t take long.

Within six months the pup was climbing up to watch the world on a regular basis.

Naturally, a dog on a roof might normally be a cause for concern, so Lindenmuth and her husband have put up signs letting passersby know that it’s where Huck wants to be.

“We are thrilled with the joy this has brought to lots of people,” Lindenmuth told CBS News. “We’ve definitely noticed a little bit more pep in Huck’s step since this all started.”

Of all the friends in the world, this pair is perhaps one of the more unlikely.

Brody, a Saint Bernard, and his neighbor Sally, a 93-year-old woman are the best of friends.

Brody’s owner, Dave Mazarella of Mount Vernon, Washington documents his dogs’ lives via Instagram as a number of pet owners do, but Brody and Sally’s friendship has gone viral.

The two were fast friends when they met, and Mazarella has been sure to document their adventures.

Brody gets her newspaper…

Brody and Sally have a special bond that reminds us of the love between humans and our canine friends.

After all the technological advancements in flight over the years, one thing still makes every flight a little dangerous in takeoff and landing: birds.

That’s where this dog comes in.

Meet Piper, a Border Collie working out of the airport in Traverse City, Michigan. Piper has a very important job during takeoff and landing. He makes sure that all the birds in the area are scared off so they don’t interfere with the planes.

According to a story on Insider, Piper has been employed with the airport for two years.

Brian Edwards, Piper’s handler, says, “Piper is a Border Collie, they are working dogs. They are meant to work so this is a dream job for Piper. He loves everything he does. He loves coming to work every day, the airport is basically his second home.”

Edwards noted that it took hours of work to train Piper for the job, but once he got the handle of it, he couldn’t get enough.

Piper works in all weather conditions to keep the runways clear from owls, geese, hawks, and other critters are out of the way of the planes.

Edwards says that seeing Piper enjoy the job is part of what makes him happy in his own life.

“There is not greater fulfillment or enjoyment in my life,” he said.

We all have those days–sometimes even when you have it easy as a suburban house dog.

Meet Bruley:

Bruley had a rough day and takes no apprehensions about venting about it. In the video, Bruley’s mom asks him what’s going on and the pooch takes the effort to try to speak in a human voice!

At certain points Bruley actually sounds like he’s trying to say “Mom.”

Even though Bruley may have had a tough day, it’s difficult not to crack a smile at his efforts to be human for his mom.

Watch the video below, and share with others who’ve been having a tough time!

There’s a reason many couples opt to get a dog before having kids. Sometimes the parallels are just too much.

Take these two Huskies for example:

Dakota and Phoenix’s dad came home to find a bit of a mess involving an important piece of mail torn up and strewn about the hallway.

Instead of taking responsibility or pulling the guilty-dog look, the two immediately start blaming it on each other, howling away and pointing paws hoping the other will get in trouble.

After dad calms them down and starts a real interrogation, it’s clear each of them is guilty, but the pointing of fingers is both hilarious and adorable.

As with most viral dogs, it started with a Tweet:

“Can we just talk about how my dog begs for food?” wrote Adriana Burkhart with an image of pup Bella riding on top of Golden Retriever Hank.

The images immediately spread like wildfire, as the internet is infamous for falling in love with unique dogs.

Burkhart has six dogs in total according to a story in Buzzfeed News, but it seems that Bella and Hank are the two tightest of the bunch.

Whether Hank is helping Bella climb onto the couch or simply acting as noble steed, the two are inseparable.

“Whenever we’re making food, she uses Hank to get a better vantage point so she can be closer to the counter,” said Burkhart. “She’s got a pretty good puppy dog eye, so they both end up getting treats whenever that happens.”

One thing is for sure: the world can never have too many pictures of these two together.

As dog lovers it’s unfathomable to us how someone could hurt a beautiful canine. These things happen however, and sometimes the best thing to do is look at the people who save the abused.

When the Orange County, FL Police Department received a call about a pair of abandoned Pit Bulls left on the side of a street, they sprang into action.

Officers Boggs and Reed were dispatched to the location until Animal Services could arrive, according to a story in The Best Breed.

Upon arrival, Boggs and Reed huddled up to the pups, going beyond the call of duty and comforting them with love every step of the way.

One of the dogs was bleeding from the leg – the officers tended the wound.

The shelter who received the dogs named the Justice and Liberty.

Even with bad people in the world, there is always Justice and Liberty.
