Maybe another way you can tell you love your Great Dane is that you DON'T hack of part of their ears because YOU think it looks good.
I agree with Eric. They have the most amazing soft floppy ears. I have 3 Danes and would never ever think about cropping their velvety soft ears. I play with the hem all the time.
I agree. They are more beautiful with the ears they were born with!
Right!!
Yes!!!
Amen! Those are my favorite part of my sweet girl!
Wow. Must we always get into this crop or don't crop? Prius or camaro? We are at the top of the food chain for a reason. We are smart enough to sedate our danes and take them to a professional and crop them the right way. I have three that are uncropped and have had two that were cropped. Two words. Breed standard. Crop or don't crop, Sanders or trump. Make your choice but don't criticize others for theirs.
Your a big jrek for saying that! Haha. Jk. I agree. Each to their own. I have 3 Danes myself. All in-cropped. But I think it's a cool look and for showing purposes it right. Who cares one way or another? It won't kil them. So kudos to your opinion.
To hack off part of their ears for a cosmetic reason is disgusting.
They can't lower them properly against the wind and rain so can get infections
Animals can't speak for themselves so decent people do so
Don't have them in the rain! And when they are down they can get dirty eat infections
I absolutely agree. I currently have 5 gorgeous Danes andcall are floppies, however my next baby girl (due October 6th, 2016) will be a cropped baby girl. I have the most incredible veterinarian that is well educated and I intend to discuss the entire process with her since our wonderful breed does have special needs related to anesthetizing and post-up. That is the good thing, in our day and time, it can be done humanely. Otherwise, i would never even consider the idea. But I love the great Dane in every form and every fashion but as long as it is not illegal, then please allow Dane parents to raise their babies the way they wish-I am positive it all is done with love in the hearts that own them.

True
I agree. I can't see cropping a dog's ears unless he/she will be a show dog. And then, why do show dogs need to have their ears cropped??
Actually, today a floppy can be shown without faults effecting them. However, unfortunately a cropped ear is still mainstream and most desired in the show ring.
I so agree !! Would you hack off your biological child's ear? I feel my GDs are my children :)
Let's keep in mind just because a dog has cropped ears in some of these photos doesn't mean the owner necessarily cropped, some breeders crop before sending pups out, along with the possibility that the Dane was a rescue who already had cropped ears. On the other hand, even if people choose to crop their Danes, it doesn't mean they love them any less. It's personal choice. Many people find benefits to cropping. You can disagree with cropping all you want and that's great, I love when people are passionate about things. If you are passionate that's your right to not crop, but please do not ever state someone loves their dog any less because they chose to crop. :)
I could not agree with you more Jess. I breed Danes and I chose not to crop. I do not prohibit my buyers from cropping if they chose to. I will even work with them to get it done pre pick up. I prefer the floppy look. To me it increases the cute snuggly factor of Danes. That said good crop jobs look amazing! From being around a lot of puppies that were cropped they had some mild discomfort but that was it. One thing they don't get is the floppy bloody ear. Every single one of my males has this poor condition. Heaven help me if the police ever come over and see all the blood splatter all over my white walls. The cropped Danes don't have this same problem. I think a couple of weeks of minor discomfort are worth a life time free of that.
Myself however, I can never give up my super soft cuddles wuddly droopy and floppy ears!
I agree with you.
I agree. I actually think that Danes look really good with cropped ears, but I think they look equally as good with natural ears, and it's my preference not to have it done to my dogs. Though I don't believe in doing it, I would hope anyone that does would get it done by an experienced vet that would do it right. My mother had a rescue Dane who came to her with poorly cropped ears. They didn't stand up, so she went through it for nothing.
I thought at one time I read that the show dogs had to have their ears cropped. It seems odd that they wouldn't want them natural, but who knows.
Thank you for this comment!
I opted to crop our Danes ears & i love her more than anything!
True story
Absolutely a great response..
How could you NOT love our Danes - cropped or flopped?
I have had many Danes and have never cropped their ears. Love those floppies! I know people that have had them cropped and love it. It is a matter of personal preference. I believe it is cruel to do so, but others disagree.
Here in British Columbia, Canada they just passed a law making it illegal to crop ears! Yahhhhh
Now if they'll just do the same for baby boys.
I am glad they did because it seems people simply can't be honest with themselves to justify their beauty needs. Leave these dogs the way they were born. Cropping is not necessary and they will not die from being natural. It's again humans own selfish wants. Why don't you be honest for once and admit it that you'd rather hack off your dog's ears because you think it's fashionable, not your dog! At least be real and honest about human selfishness. And if your a Great Dane Breeder, you better be a Great Dane rescuer! Be responsible to help out to situations you contribute to. I agree with the person who said you wouldn't hack off your child's ear in order to say they're cute, so why do you feel so self righteous to do it to a dog who has no say in it and claim how much you love them. Ask yourself if it's really necessary. If you don't have a solid reason dealing with their health it's flat out a cosmetic choice and maybe you should choose a different breed. Truth hurts, but no one ever learns anything worthwhile from turning their back on the truth. The fact is if you choose Cropping you choose beauty over love and common sense and these animals are just possessions you like to customize!!!
I couldn't have said it better myself
I have stipulations for mine in my will. You forgot that one!
I am currently laying on my chaise, with my 140 lb great dane/beagle mix, under the covers with me, while waiting for daddy to bring home pellets, for the pellet stove. I lost feeling in my legs about an hour ago.
All but the car we already drive f250 4 doors, and 16 is definitely my male.
Who made this? I need that toddler bed for our Danes! I've never seen one like it.
I hate the 4th of July....My Dane is so scared of the noise and storms, any suggestions on comforting her in these times?...
Have you heard of a "thunder shirt"? I've had good results with it and it's got a money back guarantee.
My Dane has super separation anxiety. Digs his way through our garage door, and figured out how to open the deep freeze when we are out. He ate everything
WOULD ONLY crop--- I think it is a regal look, that makes the Dane a Dane-- otherwise they look like an over grown lab or a mix-- Give me the majestic crop -- and I have had 8 with a new baby being cropped in 2 weeks, and wouldn't own a natural ear......
