This is a wonderful Page
Loved seeing all these beautiful loved German Shepherds! I was raised with these most loyal and loving dogs! They are the best! They love life and play and love! They will protect you like you read about! I have had these dogs my entire life and I am 61 now! They are the greatest family dog, but need to have tons of exercise and attention!
I just got my first one, he is 12 weeks old. With your experience would you say they prefer or are better outside dogs than inside?
Wherever you are.
Literally!
They love to be outside, but that doesn't mean they should be an "outside dog". Don't chain them up and leave them out there by themselves. They crave human companionship, and they will be very lonely. They just want to be with you.
Thank you! If your furbaby can't be with you in a house don't get a dog.
Inside dogs! They like to be with their people because they here!
I've had several and I always thought they needed to be outside to be happy, So untrue! The one I have now is an amazing house dog! But they shed a lot!
Both
I only leave him in his run when I go to work he loved garbage men got to know him
The GS will cling to you, its their guardian instinct. My GS stays with me all the time, I'm a trucker, and yes he even goes in the truck with me for weeks at a time... So as for your question, i agree with the one reply, wherever you are, god forbid don't leave him behind, he will tell you about it later, remember he makes the rules, and any rules you make are for bending, they live by that for sure.
They want and crave to b w you.
All dogs should be kept inside. German Shepherd's are a loyal breed so that means they especially like to be with their human companion at all times possible. Hope this helps, good luck with your new pup.
DEFINITELY INSIDE ! They MUST BE WITH PEOPLE AT ALL TIMES ! German Shepherds are Extremely Intelligent & Social Dogs. They are Much like a 5 Year Old Child. Treat Them in EVERY WAY Just As A 5 Year Old Child ! Teach Them. Coddle Them. Nuture Them. Support Them. Care For Them. Talk To Them. Do NOT Leave Them Outside !!!
Neither! they need to be outside with you and inside when you go. No dog should ever be left outside. Why have a dog if you don't want it as a companion. If you want an animal that can be left outside, get a goat!
They belong with their family. Wherever you go they go.
They are "at your side" dogs! Ours has a dog door in our laundry room. If we are inside, she is inside. If she does venture out to check for "invaders" of our yard, she does regular checks on us to make sure we are okay. Amazingly loyal!
Inside, as close to the family as possible because he will FAST become a real member of the family. If you have a safe area for him to run and play it is wonderful, but, keep in mind this is an extraordinarily intelligent dog and that could make him get into a lot and serious trouble especially when they are puppies.
Inside! They love the company and attention, I have a five year old and she's our princess
Inside dogs
Absolutely not! No dog should be left outside. If you can't make your dog a part of your family INSIDE you shouldn't own a dog.
GSD's are both. They love to be outside playing (with their human) but they also love being inside. Each dog is different but they're about half n half.
GSD love to be where you are if your chaining it up outside you shouldn't have a dog! Mine comes and goes out her dog door into her fenced yard
GSDs not only shouldn't just be left outside alone, but they require physical exercise and mental stimulation. These are working dogs and they require work and companionship on your part. I have 2 GSDs and they are inside with me except to go potty and go for a walk/dog park. Although if I need to vacuum, they go outside because they think the vacuum is prey that must be attacked! lol
Mine does too but only if I'm running the vacuum.
They are man's best friend not the yards, leave it out by it's self all the time and pay the price
They're Shepherds, i.e. Herders. They need a job, a purpose. They want to take care of their people. If you want a yard dog, buy a stuffie!
I have a 2yr old male. The worst part of his day is when he can't be by me. When i wanna be a couch potato he's a couch potato. When there is anything to do, he's with me doing it. His goal in life is to do what I'm doing.
You are so right. My puppy is 1 year old and my shadow
GSD love being with their humans! I adopted my first German shepherd & put a lot of time, training & effort in while she was a puppy. She's now 2 yrs. old, well socialized & goes Everywhere w/me. She loves the outdoors- frisbee time, going in the pool & nature walking but she's kept in doors during the day & when I'm at work. These dogs are amazing, intelligent & adaptable but need human companionship!
My 2 GSDs have a huge fenced in back yard to run and play in. They love being outside, and when they haven't been out for a couple days because of inclement weather, they go crazy. They get tired of being inside. They NEED their play time for sure.
Always inside! I've had GSD's all my life. My GSD was a gift when I was dealing with cancer..He stayed by my side constantly! When he goes outside with me...He runs the perimeter of our yard checking for anything that doesn't belong and when I take him to the walking track, he's alert and protective. If someone he doesn't know approach me, he "fences" me, putting his body between me and the person and just stares them down. Actually more intimidating than barking or growling because the person doesn't know what he's thinking or going to do. And by the way....German Shepherds only shed one time a year...and it lasts 365 days. Lol. Its worth it though..what else is a vacuum cleaner for?
GSD require a lot of exercise & attention. They are actually “Velcro” dogs. Best to do research to stay in tuned... they’re very intelligent dogs which require a task/ job.
